There are some sessions where nature decides to throw every element it has at you all at once. For this breathtaking bridal first look at the Bonneville Salt Flats, we were greeted with biting, freezing cold temperatures and a howling Utah wind that threatened to sweep us all clear across the salt. Standing out on that wide, stark white expanse with the wind whipping can be intense—but every time this sweet couple turned to see each other, the weather instantly took a back seat to something far bigger.
Their story is the kind you usually only read about in novels. High school sweethearts who originally dated over two decades ago, they eventually went their separate ways, lived whole chapters of life, and then- more than 20 years later- found their way back to one another. Being there to document this chapter of their journey felt nothing short of magic.
Despite the freezing conditions, their connection made every single frame feel warm, romantic, and completely effortless. As the sun sank below the horizon, casting pale pinks and soft purples across the salt, they held each other tight (mostly to stay warm, but also mostly because they couldn't stop smiling). The wind ended up giving us the most incredible, dramatic movement in her veil and dress, creating photographs full of raw emotion, depth, and genuine laughter.
It was a powerful reminder that when a love story has been 20 years in the making, a little freezing wind isn't going to stop the celebration.
