As a mom, people always warn you how fast the time goes, but nothing quite prepares you for the bittersweet gut-punch of your oldest wrapping up their very first official year of school. Watching my daughter and her two cute friends finish kindergarten hit me right in the heart string department. Naturally, the only way I knew how to process all those big emotions was to bring my camera to a local park right at golden hour.
We brought along a single soft pink cap and gown, and the girls spent the evening taking turns dressing up, taking photos, and celebrating their big milestone.
Between the warm, glowing sunset and the endless giggles, the energy was pure magic. One minute they were posing like total supermodels in their pink gown, and the next they were twirling through the grass and showing off their best proud-graduate smiles. It was the absolute perfect blend of celebrating how much they’ve grown while holding onto the sweet, playful innocent of five-and-six-year-olds.
Watching my daughter stand tall in that little pink cap made me equal parts proud and emotional. Kindergarten went by in the blink of an eye, but having these playful, sun-drenched memories captured forever makes letting go of this chapter just a tiny bit easier.
